Rims Music School
Liana Varnavides, head of the recently-established Royal International Music School (or RIMS) expounds her passion for learning music when asked why the school was opened.
This is the third year the awarded Royal International Music School is teaching children on the island, and already it has built a reputation based on mutual respect, devotion to music and the hope of giving every child the chance to ﬂourish. “We personally feel the need to give opportunities to children,” says Varnavides, who teaches piano at the school.
All registrations are accepted, regardless of when they are submitted. And should a student not be able to afford an instrument to practise on, the school has instruments to rent out to students at low prices. Even for the school’s renowned piano lessons, a keyboard is provided to those for whom access to a piano is not feasible.
The school’s curriculum be- gins with lessons from the age of two until four, where parent participation is included. These group lessons, conducted twice a week, focus on developing the child’s hand eye coordination, rhythm and speech.
After the age of four, children can begin to attend lessons without parents, but with well respected and qualiﬁed instructors of which there are seven - even Irina Zeniou, a Russian opera singer, is a member of the staff at RIMS.
By the age of six, children are able to distinguish notes, read and sing them, and can choose to study saxophone, guitar, piano, violin, clarinet and even accordion. Musical theory starts after the third year, with eight grades in total, and exams are offered via the British Council for internationally recognised certiﬁcates.
Galyna Kaitan-Komodromou was born August 13, 1989 in the south of Ukraine in Kherson. There she graduated from secondary school and in 2004 moved to Kiev, where she started studying at the Kyiv College of Culture, conducting class and “the art of folk songs”. Besides college actively participated in the competitions, and also she was part of the ensemble "Svichado" which traveled with a concert programs throughout Ukraine.
In 2008 she graduated from college as a "folk art" and was qualified conductor amateur choir, organizer of cultural and leisure activities. In the same year she entered and continued her studies at the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts majoring in folk choir conductor and soloist, choir singer. Along with studying at the university took courses pop vocal. With the chorus of the University participated and performed at festivals, concerts, concerts in the main stage of Ukraine. Traveled all over Ukraine, and three times were invited to international festivals in Europe. Meanwhile worked organizer of cultural and leisure activities and a singer in the restaurants.
In 2011 she was invited to the avant-garde group "Yankee Kosir" where half a year later, she became a soloist of the group. In 2012 she graduated from the University with a basic higher education in specialty "Musical Art. “Choirmaster folk choir, soloist, choir singer." And received the qualification of a bachelor of music art. After receiving a bachelor's degree has decided to continue her studies at the university and enrolled in the Master of Musical Arts majoring in "Сonductor folk choir. Pop vocal." While studying at the university took courses early child development and preparing children for school.
In 2013 she graduated from the University with a diploma of higher education in specialty "Folk choir conductor. Vocalist pop style of performance. Music teaching."
On June 24, 2013 moved to Cyprus, from where she began her musical career. Nowadays she is folk choir leader, whose task becomes to show Russian culture to other nations, and to develop and enriches it. Age category choristers from 18 to 60 age. The repertoire of the choir includes the Russian folk songs, author's treatment of the songs that sound in different languages.
As well working in a school with children of preschool early development, where she teaching young children.
Alla Pashkova was born in Latvia, where she started her music education in Latvian Music School, piano class and then continued her studies in Latvian College of Music obtaining Higher Diploma in choir conducting and music teaching.
In 2004 she graduated from Riga’s Jazeps Vitols State Academy of Music with Bachelor of Art Degree in Music Pedagogy and children choir conducting. Later on her studies area was focused on Educational Leadership whereas she has been awarded Master of Arts, European University, Cyprus in 2010.
During her studies she performed widely as a choir singer and conductor assistant with youth choirs, which toured all over Europe participating in many festivals and winning international choir competitions.
In 2000 she began her active pedagogical career in Riga’s Children Recreation Center, teaching classroom music as well as being Children Choir “Accolada” conductor. Alla currently lives and teaches in Cyprus where she continues her professional path working with local choirs and vocal ensembles and taking active participation in Cyprus cultural and music events.
From 2008 Alla overtook the direction of children Choir “Elisso Kids Choir” with major purpose developing a dynamic and creative music opportunities for young children, providing vocal training and general music appreciation.
The choir participates in various thematic projects and organises regular concerts such as Christmas concerts, participation in the theatrical plays, charitable concerts studio records and CD presentations.
The Choir’s repertoire includes a wide spectrum from the children's Nursery Rhymes, canons and rounds extracts from musicals as well as jazz music and well known classic pieces.
Irena (Irina) Zeniou has studied classical music and majored in Vocal in the Musical Academy of Toumen and completed her studies at the St Petersburg State Conservatory Rimsky-Korsakov under the guidance of well know professor T.D.Navichenko as Soprano lyrical-dramatic.
She has worked as soloist of St Petersburg Musical Theatre ZaZercale and for a number of years as soloist of the St Petersburg Chamber Philarmonia with many European tours.
She also appeared as a Soprano Soloist with the Great St Petersburg Philarmonia, the orchestra of Marinsky Theatre (previously Kirov Opera). She has received a number of awards both in Russia and abroad, with the latest awarded in 2009 in an International contest in Athens.
She annually gives a number of concerts with the Engomi Municipality Orchestra of which is a permanent member since 2007. Prior to that she was the soloist of the Madrical Choir in Nicosia. Also gives solo concerts as well as appears with fellow singers and with local and foreign concertmasters and small assembles. She enjoys wide recognition especially in the Capital Nicosia where she has been honored a number of times by the Engomi Municipality.
