Rims Music School

Liana Varnavides, head of the recently-established Royal International Music School (or RIMS) expounds her passion for learning music when asked why the school was opened.

This is the third year the awarded Royal International Music School is teaching children on the island, and already it has built a reputation based on mutual respect, devotion to music and the hope of giving every child the chance to flourish. “We personally feel the need to give opportunities to children,” says Varnavides, who teaches piano at the school.

All registrations are accepted, regardless of when they are submitted. And should a student not be able to afford an instrument to practise on, the school has instruments to rent out to students at low prices. Even for the school’s renowned piano lessons, a keyboard is provided to those for whom access to a piano is not feasible.

The school’s curriculum be- gins with lessons from the age of two until four, where parent participation is included. These group lessons, conducted twice a week, focus on developing the child’s hand eye coordination, rhythm and speech.

After the age of four, children can begin to attend lessons without parents, but with well respected and qualified instructors of which there are seven - even Irina Zeniou, a Russian opera singer, is a member of the staff at RIMS.

By the age of six, children are able to distinguish notes, read and sing them, and can choose to study saxophone, guitar, piano, violin, clarinet and even accordion. Musical theory starts after the third year, with eight grades in total, and exams are offered via the British Council for internationally recognised certificates.

Galyna Kaitan-Komodromou


Galyna Kaitan-Komodromou was born August 13, 1989 in the south of Ukraine in Kherson. There she graduated from secondary school and in 2004 moved to Kiev, where she started studying at the Kyiv College of Culture, conducting class and “the art of folk songs”. Besides college actively participated in the competitions, and also she was part of the ensemble "Svichado" which traveled with a concert programs throughout Ukraine.

In 2008 she graduated from college as a "folk art" and was qualified conductor amateur choir, organizer of cultural and leisure activities. In the same year she entered and continued her studies at the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts majoring in folk choir conductor and soloist, choir singer. Along with studying at the university took courses pop vocal. With the chorus of the University participated and performed at festivals, concerts, concerts in the main stage of Ukraine. Traveled all over Ukraine, and three times were invited to international festivals in Europe. Meanwhile worked organizer of cultural and leisure activities and a singer in the restaurants.

In 2011 she was invited to the avant-garde group "Yankee Kosir" where half a year later, she became a soloist of the group. In 2012 she graduated from the University with a basic higher education in specialty "Musical Art. “Choirmaster folk choir, soloist, choir singer." And received the qualification of a bachelor of music art. After receiving a bachelor's degree has decided to continue her studies at the university and enrolled in the Master of Musical Arts majoring in "Сonductor folk choir. Pop vocal." While studying at the university took courses early child development and preparing children for school.

In 2013 she graduated from the University with a diploma of higher education in specialty "Folk choir conductor. Vocalist pop style of performance. Music teaching."

On June 24, 2013 moved to Cyprus, from where she began her musical career. Nowadays she is folk choir leader, whose task becomes to show Russian culture to other nations, and to develop and enriches it. Age category choristers from 18 to 60 age. The repertoire of the choir includes the Russian folk songs, author's treatment of the songs that sound in different languages.

As well working in a school with children of preschool early development, where she teaching young children.

"Ωδείο R.I.M.S"

Η μουσική παιδεία δίνει γνώσεις, χαρά και κάνει τα παιδιά να έχουν αυτοπεποίθηση. Στο Royal International Music School η γνώση γίνεται παιχνίδι και τα παιδιά σας καλύτεροι άνθρωποι μέσα από τη μαγεία του πενταγράμμου! Και η κυρία Λιάνα Πλοτνίκοβα Βαρναβίδου μάς εξηγεί το γιατί...

Πώς ξεκίνησε η ιδέα για το ωδείο;
Καλλιεργούσα πολύ καιρό την ιδέα στο μυαλό μου, ενώ την ίδια στιγμή εργαζόμουν ως καθηγήτρια σε διάφορα ωδεία στην Κύπρο. Μετά όμως σκέφτηκα ότι θα μπορούσα να προσφέρω πολύ περισσότερα σε ένα δικό μου ωδείο όσον αφορά στην παιδεία και το χώρο της μουσικής γενικότερα και έτσι υλοποίησα την ιδέα. Σκοπός μου είναι να αναπτύξω τη μέθοδο διδασκαλίας που εφαρμόζεται και στη Ρωσία, αφού είναι ένα εξαιρετικό καλό σύστημα που προσφέρει πολλά στα παιδιά. Υπάρχουν μαθήματα σοφλέζ, χορωδία και όλα όσα αφορούν τη μουσική παιδεία.

Ποια είναι τα μουσικά όργανα που διδάσκετε;
Στο ωδείο μας διδάσκονται: πιάνο, βιολί, ακορντεόν, κλασσική κιθάρα, αρμόνιο και κλασσικά-μοντέρνα φωνητικά. Επίσης υπάρχουν μαθήματα: ιστορία της μουσικής και σοφλέζ.

Από ποια ηλικία μπορούν τα παιδιά να φοιτήσουν στο ωδείο σας και μέχρι πόσο χρόνων μπορούν να μείνουν κοντά σας;
Οποιοδήποτε παιδί μπορεί να ξεκινήσει κάποιο μουσικό όργανο από τη στιγμή που αρχίζει να διαβάζει. Η εκμάθηση οποιουδήποτε μουσικού οργάνου απαιτεί τρεις σημαντικές δεξιότητες: το "βλέπω", το "διαβάζω" και το "εκτελώ".

Τι προσφέρει το ωδείο σας;
Το ωδείο προσφέρει μουσική προπαιδεία από 6 μηνών μέχρι 6 ετών στο πρόγραμμα «Me & Mommy» (προς το παρών μόνο για ρωσσόφωνα παιδιά). Ο στόχος της προπαιδείας είναι η ανάπτυξη της ακοής, του ρυθμού, της ορθοφωνίας και η πλήρης προετοιμασία του παιδιού για τις πρώτες τάξεις του ωδείου. Από 6,5 ετών και πάνω τα παιδιά μπαίνουν στην διαδικασία του ωδείου, το οποίο προσφέρει μαθήματα μουσικών οργάνων καθώς επίσης και συμμετοχή στην χορωδία «Ελυσσώ». Στα πλαίσια της χορωδίας γίνονται και ηχογραφήσεις σε επαγγελμτικό studio ενώ παράλληλα τα παιδιά εμφανίζονται και σε διάφορες τηλεοπτικές και παιδικές εκπομπές.

Τα ετοιμάζετε μετά και για τις μουσικές τους σπουδές;
Ναι φυσικά. Ο επόμενος στόχος του ωδείου είναι να γίνει παράρτημα του κονσερβατορίου της Μόσχας ή της Αγ. Πετρούπολης.

Λίγα λόγια για το χώρο σας?
Ο χώρος μας είναι ειδικά διαμορφωμένος για τα μικρά και μεγάλα παιδιά καθώς επίσης και για τα διαφορετικά μαθήματα. Σύντομα θα μετακομίσουμε στο νέο μας χώρο στην Έγκωμη. Να σημειώσουμε ότι τα μαθήματα παραδίδονται όλα στην ελληνική γλώσσα.
